Obituary-The Oakdale Sentinel-April 12, 1890
DR. BAILEY
Died of blood poisoning, on Saturday, April 5, 1890, at about 10 p.m., Dr. BAILEY, veterinarian, who has been living in the Charley WILSON house for nearly a year. He leaves a wife and two children to mourn his loss. The remains were interred in the Oakdale Cemetery on Monday. The bereaved have the sympathy of their friends and neighbors.

LOUIS C BAILEY
Abridged: Louis C BAILEY was born in Greene, Iowa, October 31, 1892. In May, 1893, the family moved to ARMSTRONG, Iowa, remaining there until the spring of 1906 when they moved to Oakdale, Nebraska. In April 1909, Louis moved with his father and brothers to Fairpoint, SD where he lived until called into service of the United States. He was inducted on September 4, 1918 and entrained to Camp Grant, IL. He was transferred to Camp Hancock, Augusta, GA, September 27. On September 28, he was taken to the Hospital suffering with Spanish influenza and died on October 6, 1918. Funeral services were held at the grave in Oakdale on Thursday morning, October 17.

PHOEBE STOLP BAILEY
Abridged: Phoebe STOLP was born June 3, 1857, at Frankfort, Illinois and died at Oakdale, Nebraska, August 4, 1909. In June 1871, she came with her parents to Antelope County settling 3 miles north of Oakdale. On March 15, 1864, she married William E. BAILEY at Neligh. A few years later, they moved to Ewing, Nebraska and then to Oelrichs, South Dakota. She contracted cancer and about two weeks before her death was brought to the home of her sister, Mrs Katharine SNIDER in Oakdale. She is survived by her husband and seven children; L. D. BAILEY of Orchard, F. E. BAILEY of Oelrichs, South Dakota, O. V. BAILEY of Chadron, Jessie M. WHITNEY of Battle Creek, Alma GOODEN of Hot Springs, South Dakota, L. G. and Olive BAILEY of Oelrichs, South Dakota. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Episcopal Church Thursday afternoon, Rev. SHACKLOCK officiating. Interment was in the Oakdale Cemetery.

ROY EDWARD BAILEY
Roy Edward BAILEY, son of William Gurley and Sarah LEAP BAILEY, was a born June 17, 1888, at Armstrong, Iowa and departed this life February 10, 1976 at his farm home near here at the age of 87 years, seven months and 23 days. He spent his early years on farms in Iowa and Missouri and after the death of his mother moved with his his father and the family to a farm near Oakdale, Nebraska. He and his brothers helped with the farm work, and during the winter months Roy attended Peru State Teachers College from which he was graduated. He later received his Master’s Degree in education from Columbia University Teacher’s College in New York. On August 1, 1917, in the farm home of the bride’s parents near Elgin, he was united in marriage with Miss Edith Mary EGGLESTON of Elgin. During World War I Mr BAILEY served with the United States Army and following the war pursued his profession as an educator. He served as superintendent of schools at Ruskin, Newman Grove and Plattsmouth in Nebraska. In 1931 the Baileys returned to Elgin and built a new home on their farm four miles east of Elgin where they lived until 1935 when Mr BAILEY became an educational advisor with the C.C.C. In 1941 he joined the American Red Cross and in 1946 became employed by the Veterans Administration as an educational advisor and the family made their home at Lincoln. In 1954 he was seriously injured in a car-train collison near Elgin after which he retired to the farm near Elgin where he and Mrs BAILEY have continued to make their home. Mr BAILEY was a past member of several educational associations, and the American Legion. At the time of his death he was a member of the Elgin United Methodist Church and a Charter Member for more than 50 years of Newman Grove Lodge #305, A. F. & A. M. Survivors include his wife Edith of Elgin, his son, Richard William BAILEY of Omaha, three grandchildren, Richard W. BAILEY jr, Deanna Marie BAILEY and Deborah Ann BAILEY, all of Omaha, one brother William BAILEY, Fairpoint, South Dakota, a number of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Stell Mae and Viola, and three brothers Clarence, Samuel, and Louis Charles. The funeral was conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, February 13, 1976 from the United Methodist Church here with the Rev. David MCCREARY, pastor, officiating. Music was furnished by R. B. HUFFMAN, soloist, accompanied by Mrs David DOESCHOT, organist. Interment was made in lthe Oakdale Cemetery with Ray HEITHOFF, Henry WILGOCKI, Reuben SWANSON, William MILLER, Donald SELTING and Charles MILLER serving as casket bearers.

W. G. BAILEY
Abridged: William G. BAILEY was born in Green county, Wisconsin, on December 26, 1845, and at the age of 22 came to Iowa. Here he was married to Miss Sarah LEAP of Waverly, Iowa. Here they reared their family of six children with which God had blessed their home. It as in the year of 1905 that the mother passed to her rest.
Mr. Bailey was stricken with paralysis last Friday, June 17, about 9:00 p. m., and passed away at the home of Mr. And Mrs. George L. BURKHEAD Saturday evening at 10 o’clock. Of his children four are living, Mrs. George L. BURKHEAD of Oakdale, Clarence BAILEY and William BAILEY if Fairpoint, SD., Prof. Roy E. BAILEY of Newman Grove, Ne. Stella BAILEY died April 2, 1915 and Lewis died October 11, 1918. He is also survived by two brothers and a sister, J. BAILEY of River Falls, Wis., George BAILEY of Presho, SD., and Mrs. C. N. STUFFLEBEAN of Waverly, Iowa.
