The Orchard News - front page Friday, Dec. 23, 1955 Stationed at Parks AFB in California Airmen Wilfred G. Sawyer and Willis G. Sawyer and Marvin Bruce Howard, all of Orchard, are currently in basic military training with the United States Air Force at Parks AFB. California. They are serving with Flight 377, 3281st Squadron, 3275th Basic Military Training Group. In the course of the fifty-four day training program, they will receive thorough field and bivouac training, including the use of the carbine, semi-automatic rifle; general academic subjects including mathematics, military science and tactics, U.S. History, government and citizenship, plus extensive training in drills and ceremonies, military law, physical conditioning and personal hygiene. During processing, they will be tested for proficiency in various professional and vocational fields, and counseled in the recommended job assignment for their future military career. At the competition of their basic training, they will either be sent to one of the numerous Air Force technical or administrative training schools in the U. S., or be assigned duty at a U. S. Air Force Base where his particular skill is needed. The Airmen entered the Air Force on November 1, 1955 and was sworn in at the Omaha Recruiting Station of the 3506th USAF Recruiting Group, the agency responsible for Air Force recruiting activities throughout the Western area. Prior to their enlistment, they attended the Orchard Public School in Orchard, Nebraska. |
