Owen Robert Flenniken joined the United States Coast Guard in August 1941.  He went to boot training in Louisiana and the to Cincinnati for more training.  He spent two years in the North Atlantic and then went to the South Pacific.  He returned to the US and was discharged in August 1946.  He came back to Neligh and worked for Consumer Public Power and later had his own plumbing and heating business until 1976.
