Orvel Andrew Fleharty was born April 23, 1915 at Bonesteel, South Dakota and spent much of his early years in Oakdale.  He entered the service on February 13, 1941 and trained in the infantry.  He left the US on August 13, 1942 for Alaska.  He was discharged on October 6, 1945 and returned to Antelope County and worked as a meat cutter.  He married LaJean Peterson and had two children.  LaJean passed away December 27, 1977 and Sammy passed away January 21, 1980.
