William D. Fink

William D. Fink was drafted in September 1942 and received training in North Caroline, Nevada, Louisiana and New Mexico. He left in November 1943 to South American and Africa and then to Foggia, Italy. He served in the 449th Bomb Group as a tail gunner. When his plane developed problems, the crew was forced to parachute safely. He received a broken leg and was captured and sent to numerous POW camps. He was freed in April 1945. He received several medal and the Purple Heart. He received his discharge in October 1945. He and his wife farmed near Page, Nebraska then moved to Englewood, Colorado where he was in home construction. He passed away in March of 1984. |
