Orville Filsinger was inducted into the US Army Air Force on July 24, 1942 and received training in Texas.  He attended cooks and bakers school in Colorado and was stationed in California for 2 ½ years.  He was sent to Hawaii and later discharged on February 5, 1946.  He returned to Elgin, Nebraska and was engaged in the well and plumbing business until 1953 when he moved to Sidney, Nebraska and started Filsinger Excavating.
