James E. Childs, son of Richard and Martha Childs, was born on July 4, 1923 at Wisner, Nebraska.  They moved to Tilden and he graduated from Tilden High School in 1941.  He joined the U S Marine Corps on June 10, 1941 and took boot training at San Diego, California.  He served with the 2nd Parachute Battalion of the 2nd Marine Division in the South Pacific and occupaton forces in Japan.  He and Lois Jean Street were married in Norfolk, Nebraska in 1944.  They now live in California.  James retired from the Marine Corps in 1966.
