DeWayne L Charf, son of Ed Charf and Martha Heiter, was born January 30, 1922 at Royal, Nebraska and entered the service in October 1942.  After basic, he left Fort Ord, California on July 11, 1942 for Kiska in the Aleutian Islands.  He returned to the states on February 12, 1944.  In May 1944, he left for England, then to France, Germany and Austria.  He was discharged on November 30, 1945.  He married Dorothy Burch of Royal in 1942.  He worked and farmed in the area and then moved to Kent, Washington.  They are the parents of two children.  DeWayne died on April 24, 1990.
