Richard Thornton Brandt, son of F. B. and Ruth Brandt, enlisted in the US Navy in April 1946.  After basic, he was assigned to U S Naval Communications Center at Washington, D C until his discharge in 1948.  He served in the Naval Reserve from 1948 –1955.  He and his wife, Bette Jones, have three children.  They lived in North Platte where he spent 29 years with the Nebraska State Patrol.  He was elected sheriff of Scottsbluff County in 1986.  Richard died in 1987.
