Robert V. Bettendorf was inducted in the Army in February of 1943 in California.  He received basic training at Fort Bragg, North Carolina and was assigned to the 877th Ordnance Company.  He embarked for England in November 1943 and remained there until D-Day.  He then went to many different locations in Europe and was discharged in November 1945.  He, his wife, LaVonne Thomas, and two children moved to California where he died in 1969.
