David A. Anson

David A. Anson was inducted into the Army May 25, 1942, and received his basic training at Camp Carson, Colorado. On July 10, 1943, as a member of the 742nd MP Battalion, he was sent to the African Theater and served there for nearly a year. His next assignment was to Oral Bay in New Guinea, then Manila in the Philippines. He returned to the United States and was discharged January 5, 1946. He was awarded the American Service Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Medal, European African Middle Eastern Medal, Philippines Liberation Ribbon, World War II Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He was one of the Military Police members chosen to provide security during the formal surrender of the Japanese aboard the USS Missouri on September 2,1945. David and his wife, Lucy, farmed from 1946 until his death in 1965. |
