S/Sgt. Bernard Anson

Bernard was inducted into the army on January 26, 1943 and received basic training at Fort Devins, Massachusetts, Camp Edwards, Massachusetts and Camp Gordon, Johnston, Florida. He was assigned to the 564th F B M, Company B, 4th E A B and departed the states on June 11, 1944, for the Pacific Theater, where he served with the 3016th Engineer Maintenance Company. He was engaged in the campaigns of Bismarck-Arhipelago, New Guinea and Luzon. He received the American Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with a Bronze Star, World War II Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal. Bernard was stationed at Yokohama, Japan before returning to the US on December 20, 1945. He was discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant on December 30, 1945 at Fort Logan, Colorado. He and his wife, Marian, made their home at Spalding, Nebraska where he was engaged in the operation of heavy equipment with the Greeley County Department of Roads. Bernard passed away March 15, 1986. |
