Wayne enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps on December 6, 1941 and was discharged on December 23, 1945. He took his basic training at the U S Marine Corps Recruiting Depot, San Diego, California. He was stationed at the base for one year, as an office clerk. He was sent overseas and stationed with Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, First Marine Division. He served overseas for three years-at Cape Clouster, Peleliu and Okinawa Islands. He was discharged as a sergeant. He now drives a truck.
