Denzel was inducted into the United States Army, World War II, on May 25,1944 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.  He served overseas with the 10th Mountain Division, with major engagements in North Apennines, Po Valley and the Alps.  He was discharged on April 12, 1946 at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.  After leaving the army he took up farming and livestock, for many years maintaining a herd of registered Angus cattle.  He married Florence Neidig of Madison, Nebraska, in 1968.  They retired from farming in 1992 and reside in Elgin, Nebraska.
