George H. Alderson was born in Yorkshire Reeth, England, May 29, 1860, the son of John and Elizabeth Alderson. In 1862, his parents and five children bid farewell to their friends and their dear old England house and in the steamer, Hibernium, sailed for the shores of America, landing at Quebec and taking the first train to Shullsburg, Wisconsin. Here, another sister, Elizabeth was born. After two years, they moved to Nora, Illinois. Here two more brothers, John and William, were added to the family. Three years later the family moved to Argyle, Wisconsin, where they lived for the next 11 years. Their last child, Lucinda, was born here. On December 27, 1876, John Alderson died, leaving Elizabeth with nine children. In 1879, the family left Wisconsin and moved to Seney, Iowa for six years. They came to Antelope County in 1885, settling on a farm near Elgin, Nebraska.

George purchased his farm at this time and in 1894 married Etta Brown of New Diggins, Wisconsin. George and Etta had three children, Vera married Alfred Lehmer of Petersburg; Leah married Chester Schuchardt of Oakdale; and Fred who died in 1932. Vera and Alfred had no children. Leah and Chester had two. Fred married Ruth Ensminger and they had one son. ~ Written by Leah Alderson Schuchardt
