Herman and Emma (Eyer) Ziegenbein came to Antelope County
in the summer of 1880 from Ashland, Nebraska. They homesteaded southwest of Royal. Herman was born in Gebesse, Germany, July 21, 1858. He was the oldest son of Karl Ziegenbein
and Mary Otoe. Herman had seven
brothers and sisters. Emma Eyer was
born February 12, 1861 in Dixon County, Illinois, oldest daughter of Alfred
Eyer and Mary Dick. Herman and Emma
were married February 12, 1879 in Illinois. Ten children were born to them. For two years they lived on a farm near Ashland. Then they moved to Antelope. Over the years, Herman and Emma acquired
10 other farms and gave one to each of their children. Herman died May 1, 1941 and Emma on
January 26, 1944. Alfred was born
March 23, 1880 and died August 25, 1967. Ernest was born October 4, 1882 and died February 1963. Sloma was born
October 29, 1884 and died April 24, 1976. Earl was born February 2, 1887 and died December 23, 1977. Edna was born June 5, 1889 and died
February 1961. Oscar was born May 28,
1893 and died February 1946. Clifford
was born May 22, 1895 and March 29, 1978. Melvina was born June 18, 1898. Bessie was born August 14, 1901 and died November 24, 1945. William was born May 25, 1904. Alfred married Mary Hanger, 10
children. Ernest married Alice
Hanger, 13 children. Sloma married
Frank Noddings, eight children. Earl married
Myrtle Eyer, one son. Edna married
John Maurer, six children. Oscar
married Sylva Leslie, 10 children. Clifford married Atha Keetle, two children. Melvina married Kenneth Cobb, one child. Bessie married Robert Aughe, six children. William married Helen Steiner, four
children.
