LEROY JOE ZEGERS was born on September 24, 1924, the son of George Zegers and Anna Jacobs. He was raised on his parents farm southwest of Elgin and attended Bell Tower School. He was inducted into the Army on June 28, 1944 and served with the 383rd Infantry Regiment, 96th Division. He was wounded in action in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre. He received a medical discharge on January 3, 1946. He married Loretta Tunink, daughter of William Tunink and Katherine Overmohle. She attended St Boniface School and graduated in 1945. They are the parents of five children: Richard, Diane, Doris, Cindy and David. Richard is engaged in farming. Diane married Dennis Flenniken and have two children. Doris married LeRoy Napier and they have eight children. Cindy married Terry Klinetobe and are parents of one child. David works in Neligh.
