As a result of intense turmoil in Ireland, John Wylie, a 16 year old orphan, emigrated to the United States from Ballyshane County Antrim, Ireland in 1870. He lived in Pennsylvania with an uncle for a few years before moving to Illinois. There he met Nancy McCaughey, who came to the United States with her family in 1875 from the same place in Irelland. She was 18 at the time. They were married in Pontiac, Illinois in 1882. Daughter Jennie was born the next year. Their second child, Nellie was born and the family moved to Saunders County, Nebraska. John Jr was born in 1886 and the family moved to Antelope County in 1887 and lived in the Antelope Creek neighborhood and West Cedar Valley until the 1920’s when John and Nancy moved with daughters, Grace and Alda, to Elgin. Other members of the family were Ray, Matt, Nancy and Bessie.
