Wright Wingate, son of Elijah and Katherine Wingate, was
born at Independence, Virginia in 1869. He came to Nebraska and worked near Battle Creek, then returned to
Virginia and married Lettie Halsey on September 15, 1895. They were the parents of 11 children,
seven sons and four daughters. In 1907
the family moved to Tilden and lived on rented farms. The children were: Hurley married Grace Priestley, two
children, served in U S Navy, died in 1962; Lester married Nenia Galyen, she died, he married Maude Parks
Sauliner; he died in 1969. Leesa died at age two; Lelia married Coy
Galyen, four children, later married Wayne Shipps, then Ralph Carpenter;
Homer married Amanda Martens; Curtis married Dorothy Pratt, three children, he
died 1971; Claude, unmarried, served in U S Army; Stella married Elman
Eggers, two sons; Ruth married Deed Gableman, three children; Charles,
married Lelia Vinet, two children, served in the U S Army; and Robert married
Majol Holmes, two children, he died in 1972.
