FLOYD W. VARN, son of Lester E Williams Varn and Elsie Marie Pedersen, was born June 15, 1918 on a farm southwest of Elgin. He graduated from Elgin Public High School in 1937. ALICE MARIE ARMSTRONG, daughter of James Franklin Armstrong and Lydia Hand, was born February 15, 1923 in Elgin. She graduated from Elgin Public School in 1941. Floyd and Alice were married on June 112, 1942 in Arcadia, California. Floyd had volunteered in the Army in February, 1941, and he was stationed at Arcadia. Floyd and Alice lived in California for one and one-half years before Floyd was sent to Africa. Floyd was later sent to Italy. He served for nearly five years. When he returned he began work in the Elgin Post Office as a substitute clerk in 1946. He was appointed officer in charge in 1969 and received his appointment as Postmaster in 1971. He retired from postal service in 1976. Floyd and Alice were parents of two sons, Lynn L, 1948 and Larry L, 1956. Lynn married Linda Braband. Larry became a lawyer and he and his wife, Jane, live in Massachusetts.
