While visiting her sister, Mary Lier, in Burt County,
Nebraska, Emma Buckhuus met Oscar Truax. Oscar had spent much of his life in Craig and Tekamah, Nebraska. They were married at Emerson, Nebraska on
April 20, 1898. They were the parents
of two sons, Waldo and Howard. They
moved to Neligh in 1905. Oscar worked
in Housh’s Hardware Store and ran the harness and saddle department. Elmer Truax was born the same year the
family moved to Neligh. He was joined
by brothers, Melvin in 1908 and John in 1913. Oscar continued to work at the store until 1936. Meantime the family had bought some land
and raised dairy cattle and started the Pioneer Diary. Waldo left school and joined the Navy in
1917.
