JAMES
FAIRLY SWAN was born in Bloomington, Illinois, February 19, 1873, to Thomas
Swan and Mary Whitehead. His older
brother, Robert, was born in England. Mary died when James was seven. His father married again and when James was eleven, they moved to
Brunswick, Nebraska in Antelope County. In 1884 his parents went to Canada but James stayed behind. He met Jane Lichty, born in Vinton, Iowa,
daughter of H P Lichty and Jane Miller. James and Jane were married December 4, 1895. They had two sons, Floyd, 1896, and Ivan,
1902. Ivan Dale Swan was raised on
the homestead until he married Etta Dyson on December 12, 1923. They had three children, June, 1924,
Harold, died in infancy, and another daughter. Ivan and Etta farmed until December 1945 when he purchased an
implement and auto sales business in Brunswick. Ivan died in 1970. June
Donna married Francis Reynolds, son of George Frank Reynolds and Zona Van
Dover. They had four children: Douglas, Jody, Tuana and Synthia.
