Edward Adam Schwab and Bertha Goiter came to the United States from Germany. Adam arrived in 1883 and Bertha in 1886. They were married in New York City in 1886 and then traveled to Antelope County, settling in the Elgin community. They were parents of three children: Ed, Arthur, and Edna. The brief family history relates to their oldest son, Edward Adam who was born in O’Neill, Nebraska on May 12, 1889. John William Harbottle II was born in England in 1862 and came to America in 1869. He came to the Elgin community in 1903. In 1881, he married Ida Bragger. She was of Norwegiian descent and was born in Wisconsin in 1861. They were parents of nine children: Arthur, Abram Gustav, Alice, Roy, Bertha May, Fred, Walter, Pearl, and Allen. John William and Ida lived in Elgin until their deaths. Bertha May, born April 7, 1890, married Edward Schwab in 1909. They had seven children, Iona, Fern, Eva, Margaret, Gladys, Donald and Ralph. Bertha died at an early age on April 29, 1939. Edward moved to Coos Bay, Oregon and lived there until his death on November 27, 1960. Iona married Joseph Keil, two children; Fern married Philip Harper, two children; Eva married Paul Krageness, one son; Margaret married John Reinke, one son; Gladys married Tom Orzalli; Donald married Doris McKay, two children; and Ralph married Gertrude Stark, three children.
