"My great grandfather Frederick Smith Rorabaugh settled east of Neligh in the 1880’s and died in the the 1930’s. He played a fiddle in a band at some point and I have his fiddle.
I am looking for any information on the group he played with. My grandchildren are budding musicians and I would like to pass on this information.
Appreciate any help.
The Rorabaugh family farmed on the NE1/4 of Sec 24, Neligh Plat. Frederick and Margaret are buried in Laural Hill Cemetery. They were members of the Neligh United Methodist Church. Just had an interest in the fiddle connection.
Another family mystery:
My other great-grandparents lived in Antelope county also. They were Samuel and Jessie Pugh and lived in the Elgin area. Jessie was the daughter of James and Mary Bailey who arrived from England in about 1885. They are in the 1885 census. In 1886 I find James listed as Postmaster in Willowdale and also find them residing in Harmony, Antelope Co.
The mystery is…were are they buried and when did they die? Family records show them buried in Cedar Valley Cemetery which is also were Sam and Jessie Pugh are buried. I visited the cemetery several years ago and found the Pugh graves and interesting next to the graves are two unmarked graves. Could James and Mary Bailey be buried there? Any light you can shed on the Baileys would be greatly appreciated." ~Tom R. |
