Dora
Gina Nyrop was born March 8, 1887 at her parent’s farm near Elgin,
Nebraska. She became one of Nebraska’s
most accomplished educators. She
attended Neligh High School and Gates Academy. She taught rural schools in Antelope County and in the
Doniphan, Nebraska schools. In 1909
and 1910, she attended Tabor College and the University of Nebraska for three
years, receiving the BA degree. She
returned to teaching in the high school at Schuyler, Nebraska for five years
and became principal of the high school at McCook, Nebraska from 1918 to
1931. She then accepted a position as
Dean of Girls and instructor at Abraham Lincoln High School in Council
Bluffs, Iowa from 1931 to 1955, after which she retired. Summers were usually given to study and
travel. She spent five summers at
Columbia University in New York City and received her Masters Degree in
1929. She died on October 25, 1975.
