In 1874, Ida Louisa Anderson-Nelson and her husband, Swan, both having been born in Sweden, moved first from Galesburg, Illinois to Omaha. After living there six years, they moved in a covered wagon to Madison County. They built a log house on their homestead on the Elkhorn River northeast of Tilden. The Nelsons lived there eight years, after which they moved to Oakdale. Mr Nelson walked to Wisner, Columbus and even Omaha for supplies. Daughter, Eva, was born the last year on the river homestead. In 1914, she married Clem Baker who had been born the same year as Eva. However, they did not meet until 18 years later in Oakdale. They made their farm two miles directly north of the early sod house on the river. The other Nelson children were: Archie, Roy, Irene, Harry, Charlie, Norman, Amanda and Minnie.
