Earl Gregory Miller, was born in Delaware County, New York in 1816. He was the patriarch of the Nebraska Miller family in Antelope County. He married Charity Jane Hawley in Walton, New York on June 6, 1841 and they moved to Chickasaw County, Iowa in the early 1850’s. There were four children at that time, Earl Gregory Jr, Mary Ester, Isaac L, and Martha. During their years in Iowa the family engaged in farming. Eight more children were born; Elsie died in infancy, Theda Ann, Emma, Putnam, Polly, Edith, Seth, and Burton. Earl Jr joined Company C of the 38th Iowa Volunteer Infantry and served in the Civil War. Sometime in the early 1870’s the family moved to Antelope County, Nebraska and settled in the Frenchtown area west of Clearwater, Nebraska. Mary Ester and Putnam became school teachers and Seth bred and raced horses. He later married Ida V Foster. Edith married Will Bartsch. Polly married George Harrington, Bert is unknown. Isaac married Lois Norwood and had nine children: Gertie married Al Hoffman, Vera married Fred Serr, Darrell married Mildred Anderson, Jane married Ben Babcock, George married Bertha McVay. Earl died in January 1902 and Charity in December 1907, both buried in Clearwater Cemetery.
