Mary Louisa, daughter of George Otterbein Ludwick and Margaret Amelia Morisette, was born at Orchard, Nebraska on July 8, 1896. She attended catholic schools in South Dakota.
She married George Steptoe Jones at Winner, South Dakota on January 5, 1917. George was the son of Methuen W Jones and Emma Antionette Steptoe and born May 3, 1887 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. His mother died when he was five years old. His father placed him in an orphanage in Kansas City. His uncle, Ebeneazer Steptoe took him in and raised him as his own.
