Ben Kleffner, son of Joseph Kleffner and Mary DeBrine, was
born on March 29, 1892 at St Thomas, Missouri. He
received
his schooling in Missouri and learned the trade of farming and working with
wood. In 1914, Ben came to Cedar
Rapids, Nebraska where he worked as a hired hand until 1917. He married Emma C Heithoff on February 6,
1917. She was the daughter of Joseph
Heithoff and Katherine Kettmann of Elgin and born on November 20, 1890. She moved with her parents to Cedar Rapids
and received her education in country schools. She was a seamstress during her life.
