Walter Louis Kinney, son of Charles B. Kinney and Belle Edwards was born March 16, 1895 on a farm west of Elgin. He attended Park Center school and one year at the University of Nebraska. He spent is entire life in Antelope County and worked with his father and four brothers on the family farm.
He married Ella M. Earl, daughter of Mr and Mrs Joe Earl, born October
23, 1885. She also attended Park
Center School and Wayne State and taught for five years. They were the parents of two
children: Elinor Belle born in 1919
and Roland Earl born in 1925. They
adopted a daughter, Dorothy Irene Gould, whose mother, Ethel, was Ella’s
sister and had died shortly after childbirth. They lived on the farm until 1928, when they moved to another and
lived there for 40 years. The
children went to Park School and Elgin Public High School. They moved into Elgin in 1972. Walter died in October 1973.
