Joseph Keil was born in 1863 in Germany. He came to America with his wife, Cresenz
Vogle, who was born in 1873 in Neiterbian, Germany. In 1890 they came to Carroll, Iowa and lived there for four
years. They then moved to the Raeville
area before moving to a farm near Elgin. In 1909, Joseph was kicked in the head by a horse and died on the way
to the hospital. Cresenz continued to
farm with her family of eight children: William, John, Henry, Clara, Frank, Rose, Joe and Charles. Henry Keil was killed while serving in
World War I. Cresenz died in
1952.
