Raphael J. Kaup, son of John C Kaup and Christine Gockel, was born at Stuart, Nebraska on May 22, 1920. He graduated from Stuart High School in 1938. He moved to Albion and worked at a dairy before joining the U S Army Air Forces in 1942. He served with the 87th Air Squadron in Europe and returned to Albion at Christmas time in 1945.
Lucretia Schalk, daughter of Anthony Schalk and Agnes Klink, was born on August 5, 1928 at Petersburg, Nebraska. Agnes was born and raised in Elgin, the daughter of Joseph and Minnie Howe Klink. The Schalk family moved to Elgin in 1941 and the children attended St Boniface school.
Raphael and Lucretia were married June 5,
1947 in Elgin. He worked as a mechanic. They were the parents of four children,
two of which died in infancy. The
family moved to Elgin for a few years and then returned to Albion. Lucretia works at the Boone County
Hospital and Raphael works as a parts man. Son, Daniel works in Norfolk and son, John is in the U S Air Force
since 1982.
