Delbert Joseph Kallhoff, son of Theodore Kallhoff and Theresa Reuss, was born on October 16, 1926, near Elgin. His mother was born and raised in the rural Elgin community and his father was born and raised in the rural St John’s community. Both are deceased. Delbert has nine brothers and four sisters. His sister, Marlene, died at 17 months.
Delbert attended rural school and elementary education at St Boniface in Elgin. He worked for different farmers and ranchers while growing up. He lived on the family farm northwest of Elgin until he entered the Army on March 23, 1946. After basic, he attended airborne school, then went of Japan. He was discharged on September 23, 1947.
Delbert married Eva Josephine Kmiecik on October 10, 1950. She was born to Joseph Kmieck and Sophie Neklicjak on December 30, 1928 in Greeley, Nebraska. Her mother was born and raised in the Ewing community and her father was born in Poland. He passed away on July 22, 1983. Her mother is a resident of the Neligh Nursing Center. She received her elementary education in rural schools in the Ewing and Orchard communities.
Delbert and Eva lived on several farms in the Elgin area over the
years. In 1975, they moved into
Elgin. Delbert and Eva were parents
of seven daughters and three sons: Shirley, Sharon, Debra, Annette, Brenda, Barbara, Kristine, Douglas,
Alan and Kelly.
