Edward S. Godkin was born October 17, 1894 near Platte
Center, Nebraska. He was the son of
William and Sarah Jane Godkin. When a
small boy, he moved with parents to Norfolk, Nebraska where they lived for a
number of years. They then moved to a
farm north of Neligh. He had two
sisters and two brothers who are all deceased. On May 19, 1914, he was married to Tillie Dillenburg at
Madison, Nebraska. They lived on a
farm south of Brunswick where they farmed for several years. From there they moved to a farm just north
of Neligh for eight years and then into Neligh where he was manager of the
Co-Op service station. Tillie died on
November 22, 1957 and several years later he married Winnie Petersen and
lived on a farm northeast of Neligh. His health began to fail and he was taken to the Tilden rest home
where he died April 12, 1976. Ed and
Tillie’s son, Billy, married Florence Ruegge and they had two children.
