Charles Vine Gillespie, son of John B. Gillespie and Lestella Terboss, was born March 4, 1882, near Clearwater, Nebraska. He grew to manhood in the Grecian Bend area and on February 28, 1906 married Mabel Sabina Redding, daughter of Charles S. Redding and Sarah Jane Redding. They lived on a homestead near Newell, South Dakota for several years.
In 1915, they returned to Antelope County where they farmed in the Grecian Bend area. They had two children, Esther Lillian and Charles Leslie. Mabel Gillespie died June 28, 1971 in California. In June 1935, Charles married Mrs Emma Dean and they lived for a time at Boy River, Minnesota. In 1942, they were employed by the Union Pacific Railroad. Charles died on October 7, 1942. Other children in the family were: sisters, Nina, Pearl, Ritchie, Fannie and Elizabeth; brothers, James, Frank, and Harley.
