Harold F. Gatenby, oldest son of Floyd and Mary Gatenby, was born at Orchard, Nebraska June 29, 1913. He lived on he farm southeast of Orchard with his parents until they moved to Neligh in 1930. He attended school in Royal, Orchard and graduated from Neligh High in 1932.
On February 23, 1933 he married Thelma
Wagner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Wagner, at Fremont, Nebraska. She was a 1932 graduate of Neligh
High. They lived in Neligh where he
was employed at the Shwink Produce Company. In March of 1935, they moved to a farm northeast of Neligh where they
farmed until 1940. They moved to a
farm near Tilden in Antelope County. A son, Jerrold McClellan and two daughters, Norma Rae and Rita Louise
were born at Neligh and another daughter, Ruth Elaine was born at
Tilden. In January 1943 they joined
his parents in Iowa and farmed at Kellerton, Iowa until they moved to
Gallatin, Missouri in January 1948. In Iowa they had another daughter, Sharon Kay, and a son, Harold
Eugene. Mr. Gatenby was farmer and a
carpenter, moving from farm in 1956. In 1967, he worked for the Missouri Highway Department and retired in
1978. Mrs. Gatenby worked at a factory
for 25 years and retired in 1980.
