James Mitchell Galyean, son of James Galyean and Martha Matilda Lowe, was born in Grayson County, Virginia on March 9, 1871.  Lucy Jane Murphy, daughter of Calvin Murphy and Margaret Peggy Austin, was born February 2, 1869.  James and Lucy were married on January 6, 1887 in Grayson County, Virginia. 

They were the parents of eight children, all born in Grayson County.  They moved to Nebraska in November 1908, after which they changed the spelling of their last name to Galyen.  James Mitchell died on July 17, 1929 while bailing hay and Lucy Jane died September 24, 1942.  Both are buried in the Tilden Cemetery.  Their first child, Robert Marshall Galyen was born December 1887 and died in 1888.  Thomas Gwyn Galyen was born March 17, 1889.  He married Anise Halsey in 1913 and they lived on his parents’ farm after James and Lucy passed away.  The farm was on the main highway about half way between Tilden and Oakdale and Thomas Gwyn had a small airport across the highway.  He died in February 1972 in Tilden.  Charles Coy Galyen was born April 20, 1891 and married Leila Wingate on August 3, 1917.  He died in May 1981 in Tilden.  Lloyd Grant Galyen was born July 16, 1893 and married Vesta Blinn on January 14, 1922 in Holt County and died February 1971 in Bennet County, South Dakota.  Martha Ennis Galyen was born May 16, 1896 and married Richard Childs on October 10, 1917 and they lived most of their married lives on a farm just outside of Oakdale.  Richard died on September 2, 1956 and Martha died on December 21, 1968.  Both are buried in Tilden.  Nenia Marie Galyen was bon February 13, 1898 and married Lester Wingate on June 11, 1921.  She died May 5, 1928 in Tilden.  James and Lucy Jane had an unnamed child that died at birth in 1900.  Their last child, Cleat Floyd Gaylen was born June 25, 1902.  He married Miriam Halsey in Madison County in about 1921.  He died February 1979 in Sergeant Bluffs, Iowa.
