Earl V. Dunkin, son of Edwin and Carrie Dunkin, was born in Scandia, Kansas, June 5, 1878. He lived in Gibbon, Nebraska and Dakota Territory before moving to Neligh in December 1890.
Earl and Josie Rapp, daughter of George and Effa Rapp, were married June 28, 1905. Josie was a school teacher. For a few years, Earl ranched in Cherry County. He also worked in the mercantile business in Neligh. They moved to Oakdale in 1911. He traveled for Savage Sporting Goods Co, then purchased the Oakdale Milling Company. Earl and Josie had eight children, one son died at birth and seven daughters; Hilma J married Glen H Oakes; Lois G. married Kenneth C. Robinson; Ruth E. married John E. Dunkin; Beryl E. married A. Clinton Stephens; Carol L. married E. E. Frost; Clyda L. married Robert W. Winn; Donna married Carl E. Paris. Earl was killed by a hit and run driver outside Wood River, Nebraska on August 26, 1934. Josie died on December 17, 1973
