Ernest Donner grew to manhood on a family farm and was married to Jessie May Wylie around May of 1905 at the home of her parents in Elgin, Nebraska. The couple lived in Antelope County all of their lives except for a few years in Canada. Four of their children were born in Canada: Arthur, John, William and one other. All of John's three brothers died early in life. John Donner was born at Innesfail, Alberta, Canada, May 6, 1915, and came to the United States at the age of four. On June 16, 1938, he married Lois H Lorensen at Sioux City, Iowa. They were the parents of four daughters, Sharon, Jennie, Ethel and Linda. John was active in politics. He died December 12, 1967.
