ELIAS
G. CONGER was born on a farm in Colfax County, Nebraska on October 5, 1893.
Shortly afterward, his parents moved to a farm near Neligh, Nebraska, where
he grew up. In 1917 he assisted in
organizing the old Company I, 6th Nebraska National Guard in
Neligh and later served in France in World War I. After his discharge in 1919, he set up farming near
Neligh. He discontinued farming in
1937 to serve on the Antelope County Board of Supervisors and then as Farm
Loan Supervisor for the Federal Government, which brought him to the Pender
area. In 1917 he married Olive
Napier, who passed away in 1980. They
had one son, Philip, also deceased, and had one granddaughter and one great
granddaughter. He retired from the
insurance and real estate business. He served as Clerk of the District Court of Thurston County from 1947
to 1973 when he retired at the age of 81 as the oldest Clerk of Court in
Nebraska. He served one term as
President of the Pender Chamber of Commerce and one term as Pender Probate
Judge. He was a member of the Masonic
Lodge and an active member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign
Wars. Elias passed away on September
9, 1990 and is buried in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Pender, Nebraska.
