Archer Dana Clingman came to Oakdale with his parents at the age of four and lived there for 53 years until his death on August 21, 1935.
He married Maud Warner of Oakdale on June 26, 1901. He worked as a carpenter, paper-hanger, and painter. For over 20 years he owned and operated a garage and auto repair shop. It was said that there never was anything wrong with a car that Arch could not fix. He was a skilled golfer and built boats as a hobby. At the time of his death, he was the Oakdale mayor. Arch and Maud had no children.
