George E. Clark traveled from Iowa to Antelope County in 1880 looking for homesteads. He wanted more land available for his sons as they grew to manhood.

On April 13, 1881, he, with sons, Lewis and George Jr, left State Center, Iowa by train to Columbus, Nebraska. They had to remain there for a while because the railroad tracks were washed out near Oakdale. They drove the cattle on to Elgin arriving there on May 1, 1881. Sarah Jane Williams Clark and the other children, Florence, age 16, Anna, age 10, Edwin, age 8; Charles, age 21/2 and Grace, eight months, arrived in Elgin in late June. Three little Clark graves were left in Iowa. The Clarks constructed a three bedroom sod house with three foot thick walls on the homestead ten miles west of Elgin. They also acquired a timber claim of 160 acres. A well was made on the property line east of the house and shared with their neighbor, Hiram Kinney.

In 1910, they moved to California. Sarah Jane died in California in 1912 and George in Nebraska while visiting his sons George Jr and Edwin. Both are buried at Park Center Cemetery next to daughter Florence.
