Inez and Edwin
Edwin was born April 9, 1834 in Leicestershire, England, the son of Daniel Childs and Ann Talbot.
After Edwin’s father died his mother remarried and they followed Edwin’s older brothers and sister to America in 1842. Edwin was only eight years old when they came to America. They stayed in New York for about ten years and then they moved to Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin. August 12,1862 Edwin joined the Union Army and fought in the Civil War. Enlisted as a Private in Company A, 21st Infantry Regiment of Wisconsin, and Mustered out on June 8, 1865 in Washington D.C.
On July 23, 1865 Edwin married Inez Augusta Robins the daughter of Phenias Parker Robins and Lydia Jane Sayles, Inez was born March 28, 1846 in Joliet, Illinois. After they were married they moved to Wells, Minnesota. They had six children born in Wells, Lewella born in 1866, Arthur born in 1869, Henry born in 1870, Jennie born in 1873, Lewis born in 1874, and George born in 1876.
In 1877 Edwin and Inez and their family homesteaded just outside of Tilden, Nebraska. They built a log cabin that had just three rooms. After they moved to Tilden Fredrick was born in 1878, Charles was born in 1880, Otto was born in 1883, and Richard was born in 1885. Their last child Francis was born in 1888 and he only lived two days.
Edwin died on his way to Minnesota for a Reunion of the Civil War veterans, on August 12, 1906. Inez died in an automobile accident Oct. 18,1920. They are buried in the Tilden Cemetery.
