Ralph Leslie Carnes was born March 22, 1894 at Weeping Water, Cass County, Nebraska to Josephus Sigle Carnes and Jennie Wood. He attended rural schools in Cass and Antelope counties. At the age of 12, he moved with his parents to the Dutch Hollow community, Antelope County, Nebraska. He joined the Army (WWI) in 1917 and was honorable discharged on November 15, 1918.
February 21, 1925, Ralph Leslie Carnes was married to Marguerite Lois Lamson at Neligh, Nebraska. Marguerite was born September 10, 1905 at Neligh and was the daughter of John Wesley Lamson and Alice Frady. She graduated from Neligh schools and attended Wayne State College.
Ralph and Marguerite moved to their new home east of Neligh, where he continued farming with his father. He was the mechanic of the family. Ralph passed away on August 22, 1944. Marguerite worked in Neligh for 24 years. She retired on September 21, 1970. They were parents of one daughter, Phyllis Harriet, born April 24, 1928. Phyllis married Wesley M Rothleutner.
