Floyd Allen Carnes was born December 31, 1891 to Josephus Sigle Carnes and Jennie Wood near Greenwood, Cass County. He moved with his parents to Antelope County in 1906 when he was 15 years old. He attended rural schools in Cass and the Dutch Hollow community as well as Gates Academy in Neligh.
On April 23, 1916, Floyd Allen married Phoebe Isabelle Rorabaugh at Neligh. She was the daughter of Fredrick and Margaret Alwill Rorabaugh. Belle was born December 30, 1885 east of Neligh and attended the District 15 school and Neligh High School. They moved to their new home five miles east of Neligh near his parents place. Belle played the organ and taught sunday school. Three children were born: Quinten Eugene on March 29, 1919 (did not live); Joyce Margaret on September 12, 1921 and Doris Helen on February 1, 1925. In March 1937, the family moved to where Belle's parents had lived, three miles east of Neligh. Joyce and Vernon Ellsworth Henery, son of Kate and Charley Henery of the Willowdale community were married December 24, 1944 at her home. She was a rural teacher and he a farmer. He owned and operated the Henery Hay Company for several years. Their four children are: 1. Doris Jean born 1946, married Manuel Thompson; 2. Ronald Vernon born 1948, married Donna Steskal; 3. Nancy Ellen born 1951, married Richard Evans, and 4. Charles Floyd born 1955 married Phyllis Moser. Doris Helen Carnes married Jerome Madison Jones on June 10, 1947 at Neligh. He was the son of Ralph and Flora Jones.
Belle and Floyd celebrated their Golden Anniversary in April 1966. Floyd died June 16, 1973.
