Edward Searl Carnes was born January 20, 1901 at Weeping Water, Nebraska to J. S. and Jennie Wood Carnes and moved with parents to Antelope County in 1906. He attended Dutch Hollow community rural school District 32. He farmed with his father until he married Elsie Christina Thompson on May 20, 1925 at Yankton, South Dakota. She was the daughter of John and Christina Hedlind Thompson of Clearwater, Antelope County. She was born February 6, 1902 and attended District 21 school and high school in Clearwater, graduating in 1922. She taught school in Cherry County and District #70 in Antelope County. After they were married, they moved north of Elgin where their daughter Lois Jeanne was born July 31, 1926. Later they moved east of Neligh where Keith Edward, June 14, 1931 and Donald Clair, December 7, 1933, were born. Lois Jeanne married Anton George Kuzelka, son of Anton anf Vlasta Kuzelka, November 23, 1946. Keith Edward married Virginia Helen Patras of Clearwater, daughter of Walter and Edrie Hoffman Patras on September 16, 1951. Donald Clair married Helen Deloris Jensen, daughter of Lars and Clara Jensen on August 30, 1957.
Edward was a farmer until he retired in 1965 and they moved into Neligh. They moved to Lincoln in 1983 to be near the children.
