Ramon Paul Brandt was born to Ferdinand B Brandt and Ruth Genieve Thornton on November 25, 1934 on the family farm north of Neligh. He was welcomed by two brothers, Richard and Ronald. The family lived on the farm until the fall of 1972 when Ruth moved to Neligh after Ferdie's death on June 9, 1972. Ramon's sister, Ruth Lorraine was born on June 13, 1943. Farming was the mainstay of the family and he helped with that until 1953 when he worked for a time in construction. Later he worked in the plumbing and heating business. In 1954, he worked for Contois Motors and became assistant general manager and sales manager.
He married Dorothy Jean Knieval in February 1956. She was the daughter of Carl and Rose Woslager Knievel. They are the parents of five children: Timothy Alan, Daniel Ramon, Russell Lee, Kathleen Ann and Patricia Lynn
