Fred N. Brandt, son of George Brandt and Wiebke Diemer, was born in the German province of Schleswig, Holstein, on August 4, 1882. He was the youngest of four children: Otto, Henry, Alma and Fred. On June 20, 1892 the family migrated to America, first living in Battle Creek, Iowa and Omaha, Nebraska and then settling on a farm near Densison, Iowa. The family lived here for six years before moving to Ute, Iowa, where Fred's father went into business selling seed and nursery stock. While in Iowa he did some farming and worked on the railroad.
Both Otto and Fred came to Nebraska where Fred rented a farm in Elm township for several years. Fred married Carrie Marie Petersen in July of 1914. Carrie was born in Copenhagen, Denmark. She came to America when she was two years old.
In the spring of 1920 they moved to a farm two mile east and three miles north of Oakdale. They lived there the rest of their lives. Carrie died in July of 1950 and Fred in October of 1956. Their were to children born to them, one son, Bennie Brandt and one daughter, Lucille Brandt. Bennie married Thelma Hofacker, daughter of Paul and Viola Hofacker of Oakdale. They made their home on a farm north of Oakdale. Their children were: Harlan and LuAnn. Lucille Brandt married Frank Buddenberg, son of Mr and Mrs R S Buddenberg of Gothenberg, Nebraksa. They live on a farm southwest of Maxwell, Nebraska.
