Chauncey G. Bowen came to Antelope County with his wife in 1885. They homesteaded the farm two miles west and one-half south of Orchard. While operating his farm he did work as a carpenter.
In 1902 he formed a partnership named Rost & Bowen and purchased the lumber business of the late N G Moore. In 1906 J T Fletcher purchased the Rost portion of the partnership and the business continued as the Fletcher & Bowen Lumberyard. The Carhart Lumber Company purchased the business in August of 1912. He went back to the operation of his farm west of town as well as looking after the many real estate investments he had made. He was extremely active in church and community affairs and great supporter of the Orchard News.
