James Blackburn and his father-in-law came to Antelope County in October 1881 and settled on their homesteads south of Royal, Nebraska.
James’s wife, Addie May Garland, joined him in April 1882. Her brother, J. C. Garland came with her. James gave up his homestead and took over that of his father-in-law. John Garland had returned to Iowa. James and Addie had four children, Jessie married Albert Rundquist; Ray, Ralph, and Arthur. Arthur married Tillie Jones took over the family homestead. They were the parents of five children.
